Founded in 1865 by
William & Catherine Booth
Non-Profit Charitable organization, but first and foremost, a church. William
Booth believed in evangelizing, and sharing the Gospel with people who did not
going into bars - preaching. William Booth also felt that we should not just
tell
people about God, but that we should
first show them God, which is the reason
The Salvation Army does charitable work around the world. He believed that if
you are going to tell a man that "God loves the sparrow, feeds it; and how much
more are we than they," then we should first give the man food to fill his belly.
William Booth, having grown up in the 1800s believed that women should not
preach. But, his wife, Catherine, was persistent. Then one day during a service,
she decided that she had not done any speaking because she was afraid of
looking like a fool. She stood up, in the middle of the service, and said out loud,
"then I'll be a fool for God." She walked up front, whispered in William's ear, then
began to apologize for not having been brave enough to stand up and speak
sooner. Catherine Booth was a very talented speaker as well, and when William
world's Salvation, and would not argue with any means that promised help." As
a result , The Salvation Army has men and women as ordained ministers,
although primarily as couples, and the man primarily does the speaking.

Canteens are also deployed during disasters to provide water, coffee, snacks to other
emergency workers, like Police, Firemen, and Paramedics.
(They are rarely seen on the media, because they typically are on the "front lines" as they were in WWI, providing coffee &
donuts to soldiers on the front lines.)
I'll Fight!
While women weep as
they do now, I'll fight.
While little children go
hungry, as they do
now, I'll fight.
While men go to
prison, in and out, in
and out, as they do
now, I'll fight
While there is a
drunkard left,
while there is a poor
lost girl upon the
streets,
while there remains
one dark soul without
the light of God,
I'll fight - I'll fight to
the very end.

Christian Persecution

much a part of the present day &

The Voice of the Martyrs
"It didn't end at the Roman Coliseum. Christians still Die."
On the news, you are hearing more and more about acts of persecution, here in America, by the
media, politicians, the courts, and others.
Whether it is being told you're not allowed to
pray in certain places, being fired for saying that homosexuality is inappropriate,
schools don't get government funding if they allow Christian clubs/orgs to take
place on school property, church services being interrupted, churches being
defiled, or people being arrested for conducting Bible studies in their own homes
.
(If you have not heard about any of these things, you really need to get caught up on the news!
Because all of these things, and more,
are happening here, in America.)
Now, we live in a country that boasts Freedom of Religion (per the Constitution, should be
without discrimination.) Imagine the Persecution endured by Christians living countries that
openly tolerate persecution of Christians!
Here are a couple of sources to help you find out more persecution in some of those countries...
SAWSO
Salvation Army World Services Office
AFA is for people who are tired of cursing the darkness and who are
ready to light a bonfire. We are a non-profit (501(c)(3)) organization
founded in 1977 by Don Wildmon. The American Family
Association represents and stands for traditional family values,
focusing primarily on the influence of television and other media –
including pornography – on our society. We believe in holding
accountable the companies which sponsor programs attacking
traditional family values. We also believe in commending those
companies which act responsibly regarding programs they support.
Donald E. Wildmon is an ordained United Methodist minister,
having earned his MDiv. from Emory College in 1965. After serving
in the U.S. Army's Special Services he pastored churches from 1965
until he founded National Federation for Decency in 1977. NFD
became American Family Association in 1988.
"I brooded for a while and then came up with a plan for our church
to turn off the TV for a week. I sent out a press release and the
national media picked up on it. "Through that 'Turn Off The TV
Week' I learned there were literally millions of other people around
the country who felt the same way I did. That was the beginning of
the American Family Association."
